Standing at the Gate
How could you just stand there behind that fence
In spite of all the epic fails?
We started with dreams of riding around
From open fields to happy trails
But it wasn't so easy each time we went
With all of our fumbles and falls
And we danced about doom a time or two
But we found our feet after all
I've made many mistakes with progress in mind
Too weak, or too firm, or too fast
Yet you stand at the gate so stoic and strong
And free of all judgment you ask...
"Can we go out once more and find new paths,
Discovering freedom again?
Can we honor our future together
You lead and I'll follow my friend?"
I wish was I more yet you seem to care not
So willing and ready you wait
Despite all our past, you forgive and forget
And patiently stand at the gate
