Don Jessop

What good's a horse in the world today,
With robots and cars and fliers?
What's the point in ropin' and ridin'
When machines can carry the riders?
What's a cowboy to do with the pressure
With horses disappearing behind us,
With more roads and highways for miles
And trails paved over despite us?
When's its time to yield to the weather,
This storm, this century of battles,
With rain that's washed out our spirits
And wind that's ripped off our saddles?
The pressure from public expanding
With oceans of scrutiny and science,
Toppling our industry from all sides
Despite many a rider's defiance.
From a history of horse and riders
With dreams as big as the skyline,
To dull and mindless experiences,
Endless screens and no way to unwind
So, what good's a horse in the world today
So detached and distant from nature,
Where society moves at high speeds
And horses, as slow as a glacier?
I'll tell you and beg your attention
To understand our situation complete.
A horseman with no horse is as empty
As stairs with no steps for your feet.
The place for a horse is in filling
The gaps between constant distractions.
To bring back that balance of nature
Where connection's still THE main attraction.
I pray we evolve to embrace them
Those horse heroes we'd be lost without
And bring horses and riders together
And remember what's life's all about.
