Don Jessop
Christmas is all about giving, and if you’re a horse lover, you know your horse deserves something special, too. But here’s the secret: your horse doesn’t need fancy ribbons or shiny packages. What they really want can’t be bought in a store—it comes from you. Here are three meaningful gifts your horse will truly appreciate this holiday season:
1. The Best Version of You
This might sound surprising, but the greatest gift you can give your horse is you — the calm, confident, and capable version of yourself. Horses thrive with clear leadership and trust, and that starts with mastering your mindset, emotions, and skills.
When you show up with clear intentions, balanced energy, and effective techniques, your horse feels safe and understood. Becoming the best version of yourself doesn’t happen overnight, but it’s a gift that keeps on giving for both of you. Whether it’s improving your groundwork, your riding, or your ability to communicate, small steps make a big difference.
2. Supplies That Keep Them Comfortable and Healthy
Horses rely on us to provide for their basic needs, and thoughtful care is something they feel. So, my questions would be:
Do they have fresh water?
Do they have proper nutrition to feel their best?
Do they have shelter to get out of the elements?
Do they have space to move around in?
Are their hooves well-cared for?
Do they get exercise?
Is your saddle the right fit for their comfort?
Do they have friends, whether other horses or you?
Gifting your horse good health through proper feeding, quality equipment, and mindful care is a gift they appreciate every day. Taking the time to learn more about your horse’s needs—from tack to turnout—can help you make decisions that keep them happy and thriving.
3. Your Time
If horses could write a Christmas list, this would be #1.
Horses love time spent with you, especially when it’s quality time. They love to learn, play, explore, and just be with you. Whether you’re introducing a fun new challenge, going on an adventure, or simply sharing quiet moments, your time is the most precious gift of all.
Show up with a playful heart and rewards in hand, and you’ll see how much your horse enjoys being around you. Sometimes the best moments are when there are no expectations—just friendship and connection.
This Christmas, Give From the Heart
Horses don’t care about perfect bows or glittering lights. They care about you: your energy, your kindness, and the bond you share. So this holiday season, take time to become the best version of yourself, learn what your horse needs, and spend quality time with them—no strings attached.
Here’s to making this Christmas special for you and your horse.
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!
